Why Us

At Aaban, we invest in people.

For Professionals

We are committed to providing high quality accommodation for all our young people, helping them to feel as safe and as comfortable as possible during their stay. Within this space, our multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals works hard to cultivate a compassionate environment that promotes positive self-esteem and enhances overall personal investment in treatment and care.

Our Model Of Care

We are informed by the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) model of care, which incorporates both individual sessions and group skills work. Many of our service users have been involved in services for many years, presenting with extreme risk behaviours.

DBT is designed to reduce risk behaviours and increase emotion regulation by supporting an understanding of how intense emotions trigger unhelpful behaviour.

Our treatment follows an established overarching model, but retains the flexibility to be individualised according to the specific needs of each of our service users, and delivered in the least restrictive environment possible. Our holistic approach uses a range of psychometric measures, including objective measures relating to symptom reduction, measures to monitor progress, and subjective ratings of experience and recovery.

Over a period of treatment and care  – we support our service users to:

  • Achieve an understanding of the development, onset and maintenance of their difficulties
  • Acquire and demonstrate coping skills to manage emotional state shifts
  • Improve their ability to manage impulsive behaviour
  • Learn strategies to manage feelings of hopelessness and helplessness
  • Modify dichotomous thinking by improving their understanding of ambiguity, complexity and uncertainty in people, issues and situations
  • Formulate and improve upon anger management skills, assertiveness and self-care skills
  • Learn and role-play interpersonal relationship skills
  • Reduce the intensity and frequency of self-damaging behaviours

The DBT treatment will focus specifically on interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and mindfulness.

At all stages of treatment, we actively support our service users in making their own individual choices, encouraging independence and autonomy wherever and whenever they are able to engage. We are guided in doing this by our central values respect, compassion and person centred care. Every one of our decisions is taken collaboratively, with the welfare of our young people in mind.

About Our Facilities

Quality care is our top priority

Delivering quality treatment and care is our top priority at Aaban, and our facilities play a vital part. With individual rooms complete with en-suite facilities, we aim to provide a homely environment that affords our young people both space and privacy, helping them feel safe and comfortable as we deliver high-quality treatment and care that’s tailored to their needs.

These modern units have been fully fitted with TV and music facilities, and several communal areas (including a communal kitchen and dining area) to give our young people plenty of room and opportunities to socialise and spend time with their peers, should they choose.

Both of our facilities, Providence and Moira, have been purpose-built by specialist architects, with every aspect of them designed to help aid recovery as much as possible. They’re set in the heart of an existing local community, allowing our young people to recover in privacy but not in isolation.

Wherever possible, we aim to provide our young people with the option to visit the unit prior to admission, so we can provide a more complete introduction to what they can expect from our facilities. Families and loved ones are welcome to accompany service users on this tour, to provide extra reassurance and support if they feel it might be needed.
